Christchurch earthquake: update 9:45am Sunday 5 September

Due to the Civil Defence state of emergency, please assume all Christchurch City Libraries are closed today. Please keep warm and safe with your family and whanau.
We will let you know re-opening plans as soon as we can.

The Christchurch City Council website is advising:

• Today is a day for further damage assessment
• We are asking people to keep travel to a minimum
• Water coming out of the tap may look normal, but needs to be boiled for three minutes before drinking
• Water tankers will be sent to areas of greatest need
• The three welfare centres will remain open as long as they are needed – take personal toiletries and all bedding.

Christchurch experienced a major earthquake yesterday morning 4.35am, Saturday 4 September 2010.

Thanks for the post. Please keep us expatriate professionals over the ditch informed how things are going. Though a miracle nobody was injured there’s obviously a lot (!!!) of cleanup and rebuilding to do. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
