Saturday 20 April is the opening date for New Regent Street. Our mobile van will be nearby from 10am to 4pm, giving you a primo opportunity to test out the new Reading Room.
This neat Transitional Reading Room parklet on Gloucester Street is adjacent to the proposed new Central Library site.
It is a Christchurch City Council initiative and the oversized furniture has been designed by F3.

AH I LOVE THIS. I wish I lived closer.
What a great idea – they should be scattered all over the city!
Hi Marianne! They just might be in future 🙂 It’s positive feedback from people like yourself that makes projects like these take on a life of their own. There are plans for at least one more suite already!
Thanks for the shout out! We’re proud to have collaborated with CCC on the Reading Room. It’s also important to note we were inspired by the “Watch This Space” project run by the National Theatre in London, featuring an oversized lounge suite designed by Watch This Space director Angus MacKechnie.
Am loving those shoes! Also, what a great idea to support the Transitional Reading Room w/ the Mobile.
How cool is this!! Will have to get down town and have a look at this 🙂
Hooray for our wonderful library service.
Lovely initiative guys and girls of CCL!!
Had a look at them yesterday. They are quite large. The photos don’t do justice to their size. I like them. They could do with some sort of retractable canopy for all this crappy weather though!
I thought I recognised those legs when I saw them on Librarian Wardrobe!
