The North:(and almost everything in it) was Roddy Doyle’s favourite book of 2013. This is what he said about it “History told backwards, a memoir, a love letter to Liverpool, several to Manchester…made me listen again to George Formby and the Buzzcocks. The book filled my head. It was much too long and occasionally irritating, but when I got to the end I wished there’d been more of it.”
