Winter Reading Challenge

I know it’s hard to get excited about winter when there’s ice on the inside of your windows, but here’s something that should take your mind off your frozen toes!

Central Library Manchester and Central Library Peterborough are holding a joint Winter Reading Challenge which will run from now until the 20th of September this year. To be eligible to win some great prizes all you need to do is complete one line of winter reading challenges in any direction on your Winter Bingo card. Some challenges include:

  • Read a book set somewhere cold
  • Finish a winter craft project
  • Binge-watch a season of a TV show
  • Check out a winter issue of a magazine on Zinio
  • Read a book that makes you shiver

Pick up and drop off your completed line or square to either Central Library Peterborough or Manchester and be in to win!

Part of the purpose of the competition is to help the staff at Manchester and Peterborough libraries make more IRL friends. Head on in. They don’t bite.

Hmmm – a Reading Challenge. Not possible to win a prize due to being an employee and all that, but there is the possibility of actually completing a Reading Challenge which is more than I have done with my last few. And I have a head start.
Binge-watch a TV show – check. (The Good Wife)
Finish a winter craft project – check. (Attaching a needlepoint bunch of flowers to a cushion cover. Crooked but completed).
Check out a winter issue of a magazine on Zinio – check – The New Yorker. (Bliss to be able to read this whenever I want).
Read a book that makes you shiver – check. (Hold Still: A memoir with photographs by Sally Mann. Made me shiver in a “this is a unique way of looking at the world and not one I share” kind of a way).
Read a book set somewhere cold – not completed but Karl Ove Knausgard waits in the wings – I think My Struggle Book Two: A man in love is set in Norway.
