A search of Christchurch City Council cemetery database shows a Laurence William GEE, retired solicitor died 24 April 1980 aged 83 years and is buried in Bromley cemetery – Block 10 Plot 364. Oddly it shows burial as 25 September 1980, but that could be burial of ashes or an error on the database.

According to Paperspast, Laurence achieved his Masters of Laws in 1923 and his capping ceremony is mention in The Press on 14 May 1923.

I’d say this may have been his business premises given that the photograph is dated 1946 and ‘L W GEE’ has “solicitor” underneath it. Strengthened by the fact another solicitor is also situated in the building maybe.

    Cheers Sarndra

I remember visiting Mr Gee’s premises with my mother as a child in the 50’s. I think for finalizing a property transfer. I remember an old staircase up to the office and a strong smell of town gas.

In the deeds room of my law firm I came across a 7 page legal opinion given by LW Gee in 1969, and his address was given in that document as 88 Hereford Street.
