It is a sad anniversary today – 45 years ago the Wahine sunk off Wellington with the loss of 51 lives.

We debated this one in the office … OED said either is correct in this case. Tricky!
So long ago, but I remember how ferocious the weather was. The tree next door blew over on to the road and cut the power lines (this was in Spreydon). I was nine years old; I knew the storm must be serious because my mother wouldn’t let me go to school – the one and only time this ever happened.
