I’ve been [cyber]punk’d

Cover image of "Dervish is Digital" by Pat CadiganCover image of "Cory Doctorow's futuristic tales of the here and now" So thanks to the Five Book Challenge, I’ve now been introduced to  Cory Doctorow. Entertaining, imaginative, thought-provoking, and accessible. Just the way I like my sci-fi. The author picture on the back of the book  isn’t bad either. Mr Doctorow, I think you may have stolen my heart.

Now that you’ve shown me how good cyberpunk can be, I want to devote myself to your books alone, Mr Doctorow. But I’m afraid we have to part ways until I’ve finished what I started. The challenge must go on. I will remember our time together with great fondness though, and one day – very soon, I hope – I will find you again on the library’s shelves…

For my next book, I thought I’d try to find something with a feminine twist. Anyone know of any good cyberpunk/sci-fi written by women? Who has read Pat Cadigan and gives her the thumbs up?

Well, I haven’t read Cory Doctorow, but part of the challenge is to try a range of people and styles right?

Anyway, Cherie Priet’s Boneshaker is big right now, having just won the Locus Award for Best SciFi novel; it’s also a finalist for the Hugo Award.

But for the very best, all out Steampunk with a spunky chick as heroine you have to go graphic and check out Miss Agatha Heterodyne in http://www.girlgeniusonline.com (here’s the link): http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php

By the way, it’s also up for a Hugo (and won last year), but it does pay to start at the beginning, imho.

I’m glad you’ve been enjoying Cory Doctorow, Oneder! To get your fix while you’re reading other books, head to BoingBoing. Alas, he is happily married with a daughter…
