David Tennant has stepped out of the Tardis for the last time, leaving me (and many other fans) mourning his departure.
His final outing saw The Doctor saving Earth from being knocked out of orbit by his home planet, Gallifray, which had been brought back in time, and sacrificing himself to save Donna’s grandfather, Wilf. Sound confusing? You’re not alone.
It was a great episode with Tennant showing the range of his character but it was one of those storylines that you really needed to concentrate on and if you missed one subtle hint you ended up being very confused. There seemed to be a lot of unanswered questions, such as who really is Wilf, why was he so special, and who was the woman who kept appearing to Wilf? There seem to be plenty of theories out there, including that he is actually a Time Lord whose memories are stored in a pocket watch or some other amulet, similar to The Master in an earlier episode. If anybody can astonish me with their Doctor Who knowledge by helping to answer some of these questions it’d be greatly appreciated.
David Tennant has been a great Doctor and I’ll miss his wit and humour but I’m sure Matt Smith will bring something new to his character so I am eagerly awaiting the new series. If you can’t wait for the new series and need a Dr Who hit we have plenty of the DVDs as well as Dr Who books available at the library.

I also have enjoyed David Tennant’s portrayal of the doctor. I didn’t like most of the ones who followed Tom Baker (including Peter Davis, whose work I normally enjoy) and was therefore prepared not to like Tennant, so it was a very pleasant surprise. I haven’t seen the episode mentioned above yet (and I do hope my husband has recorded it) so I can’t make any comment about the confusion, but the episodes featuring Tennant that we did manage to catch were certainly more convoluted in their plotlines than in the days of Tom Baker. But WHY did they have to meddle with the music? The original was so much better; it didn’t need updating.
The last two doctors have been brilliant, Christopher Eccleston was insanely intense, and David Tennant made the role utterly his own.
Kudos to Matt Smith as he was ‘born’ as the Doctor, and observes “I’m still not ginger” (creating the usual redhead backlash apparently). So he’s going to be a cheeky blighter too. Good.
He does have a redheaded companion in the new series though. They are both young actors so it’ll be interesting to see what the chemistry is between them. The Season 5 trailer looks good on YouTube.
I liked Peter Cushing what number was he?
He wasn’t actually a particular incarnation of The Doctor but played Dr Who in two movies in the mid 60s
Surely that is not logical.
Maybe he was he 3A or 2b or something?
Or was he a fake – made up – not real like these other ones.
It’s a weird one but on all the lists he’s not included. He just seems to show up in those movies so his character was possibly just based on the actual Dr Who.

Just noticed that a Doctor from a tv special, Paul McGann, will be in Christchurch for the Armageddon expo. Yay. He started the whole Doctor as rather delicious trend pre Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant.
