The National Librarian/Chief Executive of the National Library of New Zealand is seeking nominations for the inaugural New Zealand Poet Laureate Award.

Poetry is an essential part of New Zealand art and culture and through the New Zealand Poet Laureate Award, the Government acknowledges the value that New Zealanders place on poetry as a part of our national identity.

The New Zealand Poet Laureate Award is based on the existing Te Mata Estate New Zealand Poet Laureate scheme, which it will supersede. While Te Mata Estate New Zealand Poet Laureates were normally chosen by their predecessors, the National Librarian/Chief Executive of the National Library will appoint the New Zealand Poet Laureate, after reviewing nominations and seeking further advice as necessary.

Movember

It’s that time of year again, when we all get to see living science experiments in the form of slowly growing facial fuzz on the dials of men across the country.  Blokes everywhere will be attempting to grow impressive and artistic ‘taches over the course of the month in order to raise money for charity.

The money raised will be going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand and will be used to fund research and raise awareness about the disease.  Movember is also a great time to think about men’s health issues generally.
