My story begins with my poverty. Tired of paying large amounts of money to get a taxi to the airport during working hours, I decided to park on Memorial Avenue and get the bus in. When I caught the bus and it only (?) cost $7.50 I laughed at my genius! I had parked on a busy road, under a light in suburbia. What could go wrong? Well after four days with family in Invercargill (home of horizontal rain and cheese rolls) I got the bus back to my car feeling rather chuffed that I had saved myself a large amount of money … until I saw my side mirror dangling from its cords and scuff marks along the door. Some wee dear had decided to kick it my off. Feel my despair. In my rush to save $50 on taxi fares I had cost myself $250 to get the side mirror replaced.
The lessons to be learnt from this story?
1) Some people suck.
2) Mechanical repairs are expensive which is why the library now subscribes to Auto Repair Reference Center. Use this resource to fix your car or at least get an idea of what needs to be done! We also have many other resources for the mechanically minded!
3) If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
As for the person who kicked off my side mirror? I picture you as a frustrated, drunk boy, devoid of chest hair who hasn’t a hope with the ladies. Granted – you obviously have a strong leg which I hope still pains you much like the mechanics bill does me. May time teach you kindness.

I feel your pain Colleen. I had only had my lovely new car a few weeks back in April when the side mirror was smashed off by a drunk guy who just straggered across an intersection as I was driving through it late one night. I like to picture him as someone who woke in the morning with a hangover and a broken hand and no recollection of how he got it!
