Run for the hills…. Macrame is back! How many of us still have those ghastly string concoctions lurking in cupboards gathering dust? Onion holders, pot plant holders, macrame wall hangings; all in lovely shades of brown highlighted with large Multi-coloured beads and dangly bits.
Thankfully the new style Macrame is far more subtle, and designed for delicate jewellery rather than kitchen accessories. We have recently ordered three new titles for the library that look rather lovely, and would certainly add another skill to any crafters CV.
- Friendship bracelets: All grown up
- Mod Knots: Creating jewellery and accessories with macrame
- Decorative knot craft: Over 20 innovative knotting and macrame accessories
I wonder how long it will be before classes are organised, string bought, and gorgeous macrame gifts appearing as birthday and Christmas presents?
If you place a reserve for any of these titles, just be aware that they have only just been ordered, so there may be a bit of a delay before they actually arrive in the library. My excitement at the return of Macrame was so huge that I couldn’t hold back any longer. And remember, you heard it here first!

Macrame never left! I still have a much treasured macrame onion bag (stolen from my sister-in-law) and recently found a macrame lamp-shade at a church fair. It looks great, a 70’s take on the 1930’s.

I suspect we all have a few Macrame treasures lurking in dark corners. No doubt the desire for Retro includes such things as your sisters onion bag. I’m glad it has a good home!

Ghastly? Are you kidding I’ve seen some new stuff that’s ghastly (like the cover of the book at the top of this page} and my Macrame sells like hot cakes. When I give them as gifts they want another one lol..I still have vintage Macrame that still serves it’s purpose and loved very much.

I actually just ordered the book you pictured off of eBay, hoping it can show me some new knots for hemp necklaces.
