Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones is a literary juggernaut. Instead of basking in the glow of critical acclaim, it has scooped up yet another prize – the Kiriyama Pacific Rim Book Prize.
The purse is a tidy US$30,000, split between the non-fiction and fiction winners.

I enjoyed the book but fail to see why it has been so successful. A simple tale, well told, relatively obvious/predicable storyline, hardly new themes. Maybe I’m missing something?
