I can hear you
making small holes
in the silence
rain
If I were deaf
the pores of my skin
would open to you
and shut
And I
should know you
by the lick of you
if I were blind
from Rain

Hone Tuwhare, what a legend. I don’t go in for poetry much but Tuwhare’s work has always made an impression on me when I have tripped across it. And he seemed like a top bloke too.
Does anyone remember when he visited the library for Māori language week in 1999?
